1. Life Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect to Be Beautiful
The other day, I was talking with one of my young learners. They confessed, “Mee San, I’m really not good at ironing…”
I smiled because, to tell you the truth, I’m a bit of a “lazy-smart” person myself! I always look for ways to save energy so I can focus on what truly matters.
2. My Traditional Secret: “Nejiki”
I shared a traditional yet brilliant Japanese life hack called “Nejiki” (寝敷き). It’s incredibly simple:
- Just place the clothes or fabric you want to iron under your futon (mattress) before you go to sleep.
3. The One Golden Rule
There is only one secret to making this work: You must flatten the fabric and smooth out all the wrinkles with your hands as you lay it down. While you dream, your body temperature and weight act as a gentle, natural press. When you wake up, you’ll be amazed to find your clothes looking crisp and ready to wear!
4. Choosing Ease is Self-Care
“Cutting corners” in housework isn’t about being lazy; it’s about making space for yourself. Instead of struggling with a hot iron, use that time to enjoy a cup of tea or a quiet moment of mindfulness.
