People often mistake me for a housewife. Actually, there is a reason why that happens.
I don’t tell my family, friends, or people around me that I work. I don’t do any marketing to them, either. There are broadly two reasons for this.
First, I don’t want to make the people close to me feel obligated. If I told my family and friends about my work, I’m sure they would buy my creations out of support, or try to help out. But I feel that would only put pressure on them. I want my work to be used by people who genuinely want it. That’s why, if someone ever asks about the earrings, corsage, or bag I’m wearing, “Where did you get that?”, I will answer. Though, since I rarely have the chance to meet people from overseas in daily life, that almost never happens (laughs).
Second, I trust both myself and my future customers. Because my goal is to share the charm of Japan with those who may not know it well, I create a wide variety of items. Through social media, I hope they will be purchased by those who truly fall in love with them.
As a side note, I’ve been approached by schools overseas to work as a teacher a few times. However, my heart just hasn’t been in it… I’ll write more about that in my next blog post.
Because this is an online business, I want people to get to know who I am, and to buy my products because they are genuinely interested in them. I believe that is the best and healthiest relationship we can share.
