To me, family is always number one.
Work is necessary to survive, but we don’t live just to work. Before I realized that, I used to find myself prioritizing work both domestically and internationally. Days were spent just coming home to sleep, and holidays were practically non-existent. There was even a time when I couldn’t even make plans to see my friends.
Living like that, a dark thought sometimes crossed my mind: “If I were to die in an accident tomorrow, I would leave this world with nothing but regrets. I’d probably turn into a ghost and haunt the place…” Sadness, emptiness, and even a bit of self-mockery—so many mixed emotions would bubble up inside me.
That was when I made a firm decision. I decided that I would marry someone who puts family first.
Money is necessary, of course, but it wasn’t the most important thing to me. All I wanted was a warm home where we could say “Have a good day” and “Welcome home” to each other. I knew I would cut corners and save wherever possible, and I resolved to build up my own skills so that I could eventually run an independent business.
And it was right around the time I set those intentions that I met my husband.
