Saying Thank You and Letting Go: A Detox for My Bookshelf

Before I knew it, my bookshelf had become completely overwhelmed. Books were piling up, and I realized they were starting to weigh down my living space.

I thought about selling them on apps like Mercari, but then I realized: keeping them around while waiting for someone to buy them would only prolong this “heavy” feeling. I decided that my peace of mind now is far more important. So, I took a deep breath and started letting them go, one by one.

Looking through the stacks, I found books I hadn’t opened in years. Some held memories of who I used to be—words that supported me and worlds I was once obsessed with.

As I held each one, I felt a wave of nostalgia. But I also knew they had already fulfilled their purpose in my life. I whispered a sincere “Thank you for everything,” and said my goodbyes.

Every time a book leaves, a new space opens up. It’s not just physical space; I feel a fresh breeze blowing through my mind as well. I believe that by clearing out the “past,” I’m making room for something new and wonderful to enter my life.

Is your bookshelf holding onto a “past” version of you? If you’re looking for a way to feel lighter today, I highly recommend a heartfelt goodbye to the things you no longer need.
