As we grow older, have you ever noticed people gradually becoming a bit stubborn, or caught yourself feeling a little startled by your own rigidity?
For example, finding it hard to say “I’m sorry” because you can’t admit your mistakes, or feeling too embarrassed to say “I don’t know” when you’re unsure of something… It feels like adult pride gets in the way more often, causing us to put a lid on our honest feelings.
Even so, I want to always remain someone with a “cute and endearing personality.”
By “cute” here, I don’t just mean appearances—I mean having a heart that always stays soft and flexible. I want to have that lighthearted flexibility: being able to apologize honestly, and smilingly saying “Please teach me!” when there’s something I don’t know.
Staying honest and open-hearted might get harder the older we get. Surrounding eyes and unnecessary pride will probably try to get in the way, too.
Still, I don’t want to give up on “being honest.”
Today and tomorrow, I want to be someone who doesn’t forget the courage to acknowledge mistakes and the charm of finding wonder in what I don’t know. It doesn’t have to be perfect—why not start with a single, honest step?
