I used to love mangoes.

Why do I use the past tense? Well, after eating a mango once in the past, I broke out in terrible itching and bumps all over my body.

Worried, I went to the hospital and got an allergy test done. To my surprise, mango didn’t show up on the test at all.

The doctor told me it wasn’t an allergic reaction… but ever since that day, I’ve never been able to eat mangoes again. Even though the test showed nothing, my body still remembers that frightening experience, and I just can’t bring myself to eat them anymore.

A fruit I love so much, yet one I can no longer reach. Even when our minds say “it’s okay,” our bodies or hearts sometimes put up a little stop sign. It’s a bittersweet little memory of mine.
