Finding Beauty in the Rain: Japanese Umbrellas and Rainy Day Foods

How do you spend your rainy days?

Sometimes, I use the rain as an “excuse.” When I feel like putting off grocery shopping until tomorrow, or when the thought of hanging out the laundry feels like too much, I tell myself, “It’s raining today, so it’s okay to take it easy.” I choose to forgive myself.

There are days when the rain brings a headache, too. But in those moments, I like to think that God is telling me, “It’s time to be kind to yourself today.”

Just as plants need the “blessings of rain” to grow, we also need rainy days in our lives. Even if you feel like you are in the middle of a painful “storm” right now, the day will surely come when you look back and think, “I’m glad I had that experience because it led me to a better career,” or “It helped me understand the pain of others.”

Listening to the sound of the rain while enjoying warm Japanese comfort food and admiring a beautiful Japanese umbrella… Why not take this time to love yourself exactly as you are?
