Today, I overheard a simple conversation that has stayed with me all day.

A man, probably in his 60s, was on the phone with a gas company, arranging for a stove repair at his parents’ home. He was calling on behalf of his elderly mother who lives alone and is hard of hearing, asking the company to call him directly both when they arrived at the house and after the repair was finished.

Right after hanging up, he called his mother to let her know. “A repair person is coming at 1:00 PM, so you don’t need to do a thing,” he told her gently. “And I’ll take care of the payment, so don’t worry.”

Watching him, a thought suddenly crossed my mind: “Will I be doing the exact same thing for my own family in a few years, or 10 or 20 years from now?”

We always want our parents to stay healthy and young forever, but time moves forward, and a day comes when we naturally step into the role of caring for and protecting them. In that man’s posture, I saw a deep love for his mother and a quiet readiness, which truly touched my heart.

It was a day that reminded me of the preciousness of family and the weight of the love we carry for one another.
