Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with someone online who is a bit older than myself. I am deeply grateful for this encounter and the heartfelt conversation we shared.
The discussion touched upon the physical anxieties that come with aging. I have an acquaintance, about 30 years older than me, who visits relatives and friends while they are still physically able to travel. Although they don’t say it out loud, the feeling that this might be their “final visit” is quietly conveyed to those they meet.
This resonates deeply with me. Years ago, I suffered from a severe herniated disc and spent about six months struggling even to walk. When the body is in pain, it affects the spirit—and vice versa. During that time, the exhaustion made me fear I would never recover. Every person I met felt like it could be the last time.
The Resilience Within You If you are feeling overwhelmed or “left behind” due to physical or mental hardship, please remember: Your pain has made you a person of profound empathy. You possess a kindness that can truly embrace the suffering of others.
Whether you choose to go out and see loved ones or choose to focus on accepting yourself as you are today—both choices are right. Let us cherish each “once-in-a-lifetime” moment and walk through today at our own pace. I am sincerely rooting for you and your journey.
PS. Thankfully, I have fully recovered as if that time of suffering was a dream, and I am now spending my days in great health and spirit. It is precisely because of those six months of hardship that I appreciate the blessing of health more than anyone, and I truly feel the importance of doing what I want to do while I am physically able to move.
