Is Game-Playing Necessary in Love? The Borderline Between Honesty and Selfishness

“Game-playing” in a relationship means taking actions contrary to your true feelings to attract the other person or gain an advantage. It’s true that sometimes it can create excitement and enhance the relationship. But is it truly indispensable?

A little mystery can certainly be appealing. However, if it continues, the other person might feel anxious because they can’t figure out your real intentions.

Many people struggle with the desire to be honest but fear being perceived as selfish. Honesty is expressing your feelings and thoughts without falsification. Selfishness, on the other hand, is insisting only on your own demands without considering the other person’s feelings.

  • Honesty: Expressing your opinion, like “I’d like to do this,” or “I think this, but what about you?” while maintaining a willingness to hear their opinion.
  • Selfishness: Demanding, “I want this, so you must do it too,” without giving the other person any choice, forcing your opinion on them.

The border between these two is defined by “whether or not you consider the other person.”

What matters is not being swayed by superficial techniques or temporary emotions, but being sincere with your partner and yourself. And, striving to respect and understand each other.
